With the discovery of surface-nucleated self-assembly in the early 1980’s and the 1987 Nobel Prize to J-M Lehn for supramolecular chemistry, a new paradigm was launched that significantly impacts evolving fields:

  • Precision molecular and surface engineering
  • Biomimetics
  • Clean, green low-tech manufacturing
Self-assembly, the spontaneous re-organization of molecules into complex, ordered supramolecular structures, is the process that nature uses to create life – molecules self-assemble in their correct places into living organisms. Expensive fab-labs or manufacturing lines are not necessary for this to happen. Every living organism does it in aqueous environments at ambient pressures and temperatures and at neutral pH. Great advances in surface reactivity and catalysis have come from the study of well-defined, single crystal surfaces. Self-assembly finally allows those studying organic materials to exert this precision control of surface structure.

SPECIALTY CHEMICALS

Leader in Self-Assembly

This self-assembly phenomenon opens doors for low-cost, environmentally-friendly synthesis for medical diagnosis, cell-surface interactions, environmental sensing, corrosion protection, chromatography, molecular electronics, nanotechnology and molecular biology. Many other applications are possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hydrnol (tm)

Asemblon, Inc. has demonstrated the ability to liberate pure hydrogen from a Special Molecule using a heated catalyst. The residual can be condensed and re-cycled scores of times by reloading it with hydrogen.

Resources for a hydrogen economy

The efficiency of hydrogen storage and release demonstrated by Asemblon’s scientists opens a number of exciting applications outside of the traditional focus of the Hydrogen Economy on transportation. Imagine ethanol being turned into the base for a recyclable molecule. Use that molecule to create a Hydrogen Liquid Storage Battery™ that is capable of holding millions of kilograms of hydrogen at normal temperatures and pressures.
