Similar to its alkanethiol analog, this compound produces hydrophilic SAMs. It should be noted however that disulfides assemble at a slower rate than thiols in competitive adsorption experiments. The resulting SAMs terminated can be further modified with various amines and alcohols to introduce more complex end groups (R. G. Chapman, et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2000, 122, 8303).
